Premium member Presentation Transcript When and Where Did Humans Migrate to in the Ancient world : When and Where Did Humans Migrate to in the Ancient world World Map for Everyone : World Map for Everyone Origins of Man : Origins of Man Started in Africa up to 7 million years BC. Most evidence is from East Africa including Kenya and Ethiopia The most important find was “Lucy” the Australopithecus Africanus Out of Africa : Out of Africa The first movement out of Africa occurred about 1 million years BC. The movement occurred over the near east and India to as far as the islands of Indonesia. The sea level would have been lower. How did this help? Evidence of Homo erectus (Java man) have been found on the island of Java in Indonesia. Into Europe : Into Europe About 500,000 years ago migrations were to Europe. Many Homo Neanderthalus (Neanderthal man) sites are found in Europe up to 40,000 years ago. These groups used stone and fire, but did not have other technology such as sewing needles. 40,000 years ago a group of Homo Sapiens – Cro Magnon entered Europe and after this we see Neanderthals rapidly die off. G’day mate : G’day mate 40,000 years ago there must have been the use of boats as man managed to cross deep water to Australia and to Papua New Guinea. Brrrrrrrr : Brrrrrrrr While in the north 20, 000 years ago people spread upwards into the North East of what is now Russia. By 12,000 they had crossed the Bering straights and were into North America By 10,000 BC they had travelled all the way down to the tip of South America. However because of the cold they did not get to Greenland until 2000 BC Meanwhile down south : Meanwhile down south Humans migrated to many of the pacific islands, however it was not until 500AD that people settled in Hawaii And it was not until AD1000 that Moaris first settled in New Zealand.
