Internet at Judson I.S.D. : 

Internet at Judson I.S.D. J.I.S.D. has filters in place to protect all students from accessing inappropriate web sites while using any district computer. All students must read the applicable pages in the handbook and sign the AUP form in order to use the Internet at school. 6

Acceptable Use Policy Students will be held responsible at all times for proper use of their accounts. You may not access, create or transmit material that is… offensive or obscene such as “hate” sites or sexual content sites. designed to cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to others such as cyber bullying or hate mail. 8

Review Social networking sites can be a great way to keep track of friends, make plans and share thoughts. What you see in cyberspace may not reflect what is in the real world. One social network site uncovered 29,000 criminals-some very dangerous, who disguised their identity. 16

Review Usernames should not reveal too much information. Post information and pictures wisely. A phone number can be traced back to you. It is unwise to meet an online acquaintance in person but if you do, remember to follow the safety rules. 19

Netiquette Netiquette is using good manners while using email, texting, chat rooms and blogging. Remember … messages should be brief. using all capital letters is considered a form of shouting. be kind because the receiver is a human being with feelings. 24

Definition Cyber bullying is unwelcome, cruel and/or harassing information communicated directly or indirectly via technology tools such as, but not limited to: Electronic mail Instant messaging Phone (call or text) Internet postings Chat rooms Websites 29

Review Cyber bullies spread lies, transmit threats, or send other hurtful communication. Cyber bullying can result in suicides, assaults, murder, or school expulsion. Some cyber bullying communications are considered criminal acts. If you receive a cyber bullying message you should ignore it, block the sender, talk to a parent, counselor or police. 32

Examples of Cyber Bullying : 

Examples of Cyber Bullying A student creates a similar screen name to pose as another student and posts inappropriate comments or engages another student into sharing sensitive, private information to distribute to others. A student steals another student’s account password to pose as that student and post cyber bullying type comments. A student creates or posts information on social networking sites that includes sexual, racist, inappropriate stories or inappropriate pictures that attract unwanted attention or offend people. A student uses a digital camera device to take pictures of students to post as part of an offensive activity. 33

Reporting : 

Reporting Any student or staff member subjected to cyber bullying, as well as any person who has reason to believe a student or staff member is being subjected to cyber bullying has a responsibility to report the incident to a campus staff member, administrator or supervisor. 34

Student Responsibility All students will… participate in an annual training on cyber bullying. refrain from participating in cyber bullying. report cyber bullying incidents to an administrator or staff member. 35

Safe to Report : 

Safe to Report JISD prohibits retaliation against any individual who reports an act of cyber bullying. Retaliation constitutes a major offense and the administrator will determine and enforce the consequences based on the guidelines in the student handbook. 36
