Lesson Set-up: : 

Lesson Set-up: Title: Don’t Disturb the Dinosaur (Letter recognition and sound) 20 Kindergarten students for both lesson plans. Similar academic levels (1 Autistic Student)

Lesson Abstract: : 

Lesson Abstract: The students will learn to identify the letters in the alphabet and produce the sound that it makes. Through technological practice the students will better understand that letters make sounds which create words.

Non-Technology Activities Letter Recognition- Create 3D booklet Letter Sound-using mirrors Letter Sort-using letter buckets

Letter Recognition : 

Letter Recognition Create Booklet Cover Using art supplies create 3D letter /Dd/ booklet cover. Use objects that begin with letter D. (dots, diamonds, dirty). By creating image students can feel how the letter is formed. This helps memorize how the muscles feel when writing this letter. Find the letter /Dd/ pictures in the magazine/newspaper-cut and paste into booklet

Letter Sounds : 

Letter Sounds Say the name of letter /Dd/ objects. Students are listening for the /duh/ at the beginning of words. This helps them connect the symbol to the sound. Practice hand gesture while saying the name of the pictures in your letter /Dd/ booklet

Letter Sort : 

Letter Sort Which bucket does it belong? Working in pairs play the game “Guess Which bucket?” Practice saying the name of the objects and sorting into two piles: those that begin with the letter /Dd/ sound and those that do not.

Compass Learning Odyssey The students will interact with program to complete lesson on the letter /Dd/. The lesson will include letter recognition, letter sound and blending letters into words.

www.Starfalls.com The students will complete the letter /Dd/ lesson in the ABC’s section. The students will complete “Learn to Read” and have a book read to them.

Post-Assessment : 

Post-Assessment Compass Learning Odyssey Assessment Individual Testing/ Teacher Directed Circle the pictures which begin with the identified letter. Point to letter and identify the letter and the sound that it makes.

Teacher Reflection: : 

Teacher Reflection: When I previously taught this lesson, numerous students were not able to master letter recognition and sound. I believe that by using the three instructional strategies I chose students will be able to retain the information better. These strategies offer repetition, repetition, repetition. Also they use pictorials which help form a mental image for students. When I reteach this lesson I know that the students with score average or above average on assessments.
