Introduction :
Introduction Chola Dyansty was a Tamil dynasty in South India.
Until the 8th century the kingdom was very small but reached its zenith of glory between the 9th and 13th century.
In 850 AD when King Vijayalaya Chola defeated the Pallavas, he snatched Tanjore from them.
Tanjavur or Tanjore thus, became their capital.

Rajendra Andaman Nicobar Islands Rajaraja was a great
administrator and builder. He
defeated the Chalukyas, Pandyas
& Gangas. He built

He assumed
the title of ‘Gangaikonda’.
He built the new capital
Gangaikondacholapuram.

Jainism
Monarchs were very tolerant and encouraged religious discussions.

It was a potent diplomatic symbol. As it carried the Cholan might and pride.
It was Rajaraja who discovered the power projection abilities of a strong navy.
Navy became the sole reason for Cholan expansion and prosperity. There are now Dravidian temples in
Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia,
Ceylon and Malaysia
because the Cholan
navy made cultural ties with
them a long time ago.
