INTRODUCTION: 

INTRODUCTION Cardiovascular disease is the world's leading killer, accounting for 16.7 million or 29.2 per cent of total global deaths in 2003. The World Health Organization (who) estimates that 60 per cent of the world's cardiac patients will be Indian by 2010. One of the most disturbing facts was that arteries of Indian women are narrower as compared to men hence they are more vulnerable to coronary diseases.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: 

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of study will be to assess health status, health promotion and knowledge of coronary heart disease in sedentary women. The sub purpose of the study will be to determine the relationship between health status and knowledge of coronary heart disease in women. The sub-purpose of the study also will be to determine the relationship between health promotion, health perception and knowledge of coronary heart disease in women

DELIMITATION: 

DELIMITATION The study will be delimited to sedentary women. The study will be further delimited to various kudumbasree groups from Trivandrum The study will be further delimited to health status, health promotion and knowledge of coronary heart disease.

LIMITATION: 

LIMITATION The subject for this study is from different socio economic strata, the lack of control over factors like diet , daily routine, life style, habits, etc, which might have some effect on the results of this study is considered a limitation to this study.

HYPOTHESIS: 

HYPOTHESIS It is hypothesized that there will be relationship between health status and knowledge of coronary heart disease in women. It is also hypothesized that there will be relationship between health promotion, health perception and knowledge of coronary heart disease in women.

DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION OF IMPORTANT TERMS: 

DEFINITION AND EXPLANATION OF IMPORTANT TERMS Health: It is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Cardiovascular Disease : It is the group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels and include, coronary heart disease , Peripheral arterial disease, Rheumatic heart disease, Cerebrovascular disease and Congenital heart disease.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY: 

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY The findings of the study will add knowledge to the already existing literature in this field. To identify the health status of sedentary women in Trivandrum dist. To create an awareness among women for health promotion. To form a baseline data on health status, health promotion in women in Trivandrum dist.

PROCEDURE: 

PROCEDURE Selection of subjects The six hundred sedentary women from various kudumbasree groups of Trivandrum District between the age group of 30 to 50 years will be selected randomly as the subject for the study. The women who have been residing in the particular area for a minimum of five years will be eligible for this study. Prior to the administration of test the investigator will hold a series of meetings with the subjects and they will be made clear about the objectives and purposive of the study. The testing procedure will be explained to them in detail. They will be requested to cooperate and participate actively for the test.

QUESTIONNAIRES: 

QUESTIONNAIRES Health promoting life style profile questionnaire. Heart disease fact questionnaire. Health perception questionnaire. Socio demographic information questionnaire.

ADMINISTRATITION OF TEST AND COLLECTION OF DATA: 

ADMINISTRATITION OF TEST AND COLLECTION OF DATA All the subjects for the study will be tested Physical health status i.e. Height, Weight, Blood pressure, Heart rate , Body mass index (BMI ) and questionnaires i.e. Health Promotion Questionnaires, Knowledge Questionnaires, Health Perception Questionnaires by the investigator himself.

STATISTICAL TECHNIQUE: 

STATISTICAL TECHNIQUE The data collected on Physical health ,Health Promotion, Knowledge of coronary heart disease and Health Perception of the subject will be coded for analysis using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) package. The descriptive statistics will be used assess the health status of women. To determine the relationship between Health Promotion, Knowledge of coronary heart disease and Health Perception correlation will be computed.
