DEVELOPMENT : 

DEVELOPMENT Two sources - Surface ectoderm - Mesoderm In 7th wk of IUL 2 ectodermal ridge - milk ridge Mammary pit - depression Pit is evaginated by mesoderm & form nipple Further development at puberty

EXTERNAL FEATURES : 

EXTERNAL FEATURES Nipple : conical or cylindrical projection, fourth intercostal space, smooth muscle Areola : pigmented circular area , modified sebaceous gland at periphery , Tubercles of Montgomery

STRUCTURE OF MAMMARY GLAND : 

STRUCTURE OF MAMMARY GLAND Glandular tissue : -Compound tubuloacinar gland - 15/20 pyramidal lobe with lactiferous duct - Lactiferous duct -> segmented duct -> terminal duct Fibrofatty tissue : - Support lobes and form number of septa which anchor parenchyma - Suspensory ligament of Cooper Mammary bed – pectoralis major, serratus anterior Retromammary space

BLOOD SUPPLY & LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE : 

BLOOD SUPPLY & LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE Arterial supply: lateral thoracic ,superior thoracic & internal thoracic Venous drainage: circulus venosus -> axillary, internal thoracic, intercostal Lymphatic drainage: 75 % - axillary node 20% - internal mammary 5% - posterior intercostal
