OPENING CELEBRATIONS:

OPENING CELEBRATIONS The celebration began with a small ceremony where the traditional Qeej , or bamboo pipe, was played. Each note played corresponds to a spoken word

There were traditional songs and dancing, but the majority was fusion Many people wore traditional garments that were regionally specific

Veterans Honored:

Veterans Honored They held a special ceremony for the veterans of Vietnam There was only one representative from the US military

FOOD:

FOOD The air was filled with the smell of sausage and purple sticky rice, a favorite dish of the Hmong people The vendor had a line the entire day

Cultural History Exhibit:

Cultural History Exhibit The festival had a room dedicated to the history of the Hmong people filled with artifacts and garmets The Story cloth shows the migration of the Hmong people The Rooster Hat, wore by young boys, the coins display the family’s wealth

Cultural History Exhibit The room was also filled with personal stories from the past and current struggles of the Hmong community The Hmong people became refugees during the Vietnam War, leading many to settle in the United States There were poems on what it meant to be Hmong, many were proud but felt displaced

THE END The event was extremely festive and welcoming The Hmong people have a strong culture but are still feeling the effects of the Vietnam War and being US allies
