Raising the Roof Listen to the following Workplace Communication Scenario: Hector works on a roofing crew. They remove and reroof houses and apartments. On Monday, the boss calls Hector and gives him a location to go and start a new job. Hector looks around for a pen and paper before writing down what he thought was the address. Hector arrives with his crew and knocks on the door to inform the occupant what they will be doing. The man tells Hector that he is only the tenant and doesn’t know anything about this work, but that it’s fine with him. The crew begins their work by tearing off the roof. What could possibly go wrong in this communication scenario? What do you think Hector should have done to avoid miscommunication? Once they have the roof almost torn off, the boss shows up. He yells at Hector from his car, “Not that house! It’s the one across the street.”
