BRACKET POSITIONING :

BRACKET POSITIONING SULTANA ASHRAF ALI

Bracket..:

Bracket.. Precise bracket placement is important aspect in orthodontic alignment after correct diagnosis and treatment procedures. Placement of bracket is done by bonding and banding technique. Much variation of opnion as to the "ideal position" -Tweed- specific distance from the incisal edge -Saltzmann- middle third Holdaway-position depend on amount of over bite Jarabak-shape of the crown If bracket is placed mesially or distally rotation w il l occur. If the bracket is not parellal wth inciisal edge tipping will occur.

UPPER ARCH BRACKETING: STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE :

UPPER ARCH BRACKETING: STEP-BY-STEP PROCEDURE 1.) Prophylaxis:A ll tooth surfaces where brackets are to be cemented must be polished with prophy paste or a latch-type pumice brush with pumice 2.) Isolation: apply cheek retractors 3.) Bonding Agent:

Bracket Placement:

Bracket Placement Place bracket on the tooth, ensuring that the colored dot on the bracket is positioned disto-gingivally. Upper incisors:centered mesiodistally ,over mid development ridge,4mm from incisal edge, slot parallel to incisal and occlusal plane. Canine:centered over mid development ridge, but this will be slightly mesial to the the midpoint of the tooth’4.5mm from cusp tip, slot is parallel plane to the occlusal. 4.5 3.5

Bracket placement :

Bracket placement Premolar:centered mesiodistally,4mm distance from cusp tip to the bracket slot.slot is placed same as in incisors and lateral. Molars:placed centered over buccal groove LOWERS:it is important to ensurethere is adequate clearance b/w the upper teeth and lower bracket.if deep bite, measure must be taken to open the bite before placing bracket ,otherwise interference will cause debonding of the bracket.

Bracket placement guage:

Bracket placement guage The bracket placement gauge is used differently in different areas  of the mouth. In the incisor regions, the gauge is placed at 90° to the labial surface. In the canine, premolar and molar regions, the gauge is placed parallel with the occlusal surface.

Errors in bracket placement:

Errors in bracket placement HORIZONTAL ERRORS:Placing brackets too mesially  or distally of the vertical long axis of the crown results in improper rotation. Vertical errors:lead to intrusion and extrusion Brackets placed too incisally or gingivally . Rotation:Excess resin If material used lead to incomplete seating of the bracket.
