STARS is a Washington State mandated training program for child care providers . It is a career development system designed to improve child care through basic and ongoing training for child care providers. The Department of Early Learning (DEL) administers the STARS Registry, a web-based database that tracks provider records. The STARS Registry is now referred to as MERIT . What is STARS? Training Requirements: 

Licensing requires that only one staff member in each group of children have a current CPR and first aid training, however best practice recommends that ALL staff have current CPR and first aid training appropriate to the ages of the children in care . Training Requirements First AID and CPR First AID/CPR courses may not be done online . If you have six different classrooms with different groups of children, you must have a minimum of one staff person in each room at all times that is trained in first aid and CPR.

Training Requirements This can be an online class, but the training must state that it covers HIV/AIDS/Bloodborne Pathogens. HIV/AIDS and Bloodborne Pathogens Courses HIV/AIDS and Bloodborne Pathogens courses MAY be done online. A child care staff person needs to take the HIV/AIDS/Bloodborne Pathogen training only once to meet licensing requirements . Labor and Industries requires all staff to take a Bloodborne Pathogen training annually.
