It makes people feel comfortable. When something’s not symmetric it attracts the eye. Repetition : Repetition Something that is made by or from the act of repeating. Aesthetics : Aesthetics Aesthetics is the study of the mind and emotions in relation to beauty. More often people like things that are symmetric and that have some repetition. Graphic Design : Graphic Design The HPU logo is an example of repetition of colors and lines and is symmetric. This Adidas logo has repetition with the lines and the elongated oval shape and it is symmetric. This Blackberry logo shows repetition with the dots, but it is not symmetric because if it was cut down the middle it wouldn’t have a “mirror image.” Nature/Universe : Nature/Universe These three pictures are all symmetric and repetitive. The butterfly and giraffe are repetitive in their colors and shape. The Palm island Dubai is repetitive in the circle that is created around the palm that’s in the center. Products Made in Hawai’i : Products Made in Hawai’i This necklace shows repetition of beads used and it is symmetric. Although, the tooth plays with symmetry because it doesn’t have a point on the right side. Iolani Palace is an example of symmetry. Both sides would be exactly alike if we were to cut it down the middle. The Hawaiian feathered cape is symmetrical and so are the designs on it. It also has repetition with colors and shapes. Mexican Graphics : Mexican Graphics The large bird is symmetric. The objects that surround the bird plays with the line of symmetry. This Mexican cloth shows repetition with the diamond shapes and flowers, but the flowers aren’t exactly symmetrical. This is a quilt with the Mexican Cross that is repetitive. The cross and the quilt itself are symmetric. Steps To Replicate A Pattern : Steps To Replicate A Pattern This is a handmade quilt. The pattern I’m replicating is the Mexican cross. Where to begin.. : Where to begin.. First I choose a few of the basic shapes that I was going to use. Squares Triangles Rectangles Drawing the Shapes : Drawing the Shapes I start by drawing a rectangle. I used the handle to adjust the angle. I used a contrasting color and 50% transparent fill. Slide 12: I held <SHIFT> down and clicked on all the shapes I drew. Then clicked the group command to group all the shapes together. Copying the Group : Copying the Group Next I took the group and copied and pasted it three times. I used the handle to find the right angle. It looked like this Then I just repeated the same steps to recreate the square patterns in the center. Tile : Tile After I replicated all the shapes I grouped them. Then deleted the original picture. I created a tile. Then I changed the colors of the different parts to look like the original picture. Then I enlarged it an moved it to my slide master. : Then I enlarged it an moved it to my slide master. Now I made my pattern.. : Now I made my pattern.. After grouping it, I copied and pasted the image. I kept grouping them so I could move them easily. Once I had my final pattern I put it into slide master again and made final changes to the designs of my sides. I did a final check in normal view..and I was finished. : I did a final check in normal view..and I was finished.
