INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT

CULTURAL METHODS:

CULTURAL METHODS Clean cultivation Growing resistant varieties Selection of good planting materials A hybrid H-226 from Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Kayangulam is found to be moderately resistant to the cassava scale.

Mechanical method…:

Mechanical method… Collection and destruction of destructive stages of pests Rub gently with kerosene soaked cotton over the stem which gives effective control.

Biological method…:

Biological method… Release of a coccinellid beetle Chicorus nigritus which is predaceous on scales.

Chemical control… :

Chemical control… Spraying of bundles of planting stakes with methyl parathion 0.03% will control the scales Spray of meta systox 0.1% or dimethoate0.03% or methyl demeton 0.025% affords protection from the pests.
