World Cup 1975: was the inaugural edition of the cricket world cup which was organized by the ICC in
England. Although the cricket world was mostly familiar with test matches earlier this was started as an
experiment to check the popularity of limited over’s cricket amongst the global cricket audience. The
matches were played with red balls and all team played the tournament in white kits.

Match: England vs. India 7 June 1975
World Cup 1975: This was the first match played in the world cup 1975 of the group stages between host
England and team India at the famous Lords ground on June 7 1975. England secured a convincing
victory by defeating India with a big margin of 202 runs.

Match: East Africa vs. New Zealand 7 June 1975

World Cup 1975: The second match of the 1975 world cup got played amongst the teams of East Africa
and New Zealand at Birmingham on 7 June 1975. New Zealand easily outsmarted the east African team
whilst grabbing an easy victory with 181 runs.

World Cup 1975: This was the third match to be held within the same day and played between the teams
of Australia and Pakistan at Leeds. Australia easily thumped Pakistan to grab a victory by 73 runs and once
again proved their dominance on the world cricket.

This was the last match of the first day of the inaugural world cup and been played between the teams of
Sri Lanka and West Indies at Manchester. West Indies secured an easy win whilst thrashing the Lankan
team by 9 wickets.

The world cup action continued after a gap of 4 days and host England played with the Kiwis at
Nottingham on 11 June 1975. As expected the English team won the match with a healthy margin of 80
runs and almost secured a spot in the knock out round.

Match: East Africa vs. India 11 June 1975

Indian team met East African team in the second match of the day at Leeds on 11 June 1975 and secured
their first win the tournament whilst defeating the east African team by 10 wickets.

The next match on the same day witnessed the teams of Australia and Sri Lanka clashing with each other
at the famous Oval ground. Still the Aussies didn’t find it much difficult as they beat the Lankans easily
by 52 runs in the process.

This was the last match of the day and saw the teams of West Indies and Pakistan facing each other in a
crucial tie at Birmingham. Although Pakistan team gave the Windies a tough fight they couldn’t save
themselves from getting defeated by a close margin of 1 wicket.

England was looking confident of securing a spot in the knockouts as they met the east African team in a
group stage match at Birmingham. Without getting any tough fight they easily won the match with a big
margin of 196 runs and became the first team to enter the semifinals of the world cup 1975.

expected a tough competition Australia snatched the victory form the hosts at a nail-biting thriller held at
the Leeds ground.

The second semifinal match was been held between New Zealand and the West Indies at the famous Oval
ground. Although the Kiwis did give a tough fight to the West Indies team the latter secured a convincing
victory by 5 wickets.
The final: Australia vs West Indies 21 June 1975

It was the big final day between the might West Indians and the Australian team and the West Indies
proved their dominance on the Aussies by defeating them in a thriller with 17 runs at the Lord’s ground.
