PLOT SUMMARY: The Hunger Games takes place in the ruins of North America. There lies the nation of Panem. Within is a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts in different states of repair. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games. The games are gladiator like and only one competitor can survive. Best Fiction Book :

Katniss and Peeta, the baker’s son, are the tributes chosen for district 12. They are taken to the Capitol, where they meet the other tributes. When they publicly displayed to the Capitol audience, the appear as flaming Tributes because of the costumes designed for them. During this time, Peeta reveals on-air his long-time love for Katniss. Katniss believes this to be a strategy to get audience support for the Games. Support is crucial for survival, since audience members send gifts to favored tributes during the Games. Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting prey and gathering food beyond the fences of District 12. Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games. She does not care it may mean a death sentence.
