ADVANTAGES FOR THE SILESIAN REGION On the basis of the study of
prof. Marek Rekowski, Academy of Economics Poznań One milion passengers (workload units) generates about 3000 work places, 50% of them are around the airport.
Airports contribute to the creation of 1.4 – 2.5 % GDP, depending on the country.
The access to air services is one of the three main factors which have an influence on decisions concerning the localisation of the investment in the region.
As much as 1/3 of the global trade is carried out by means of air transport.
Airports and air services have a decisive influence on tourism development.
Slide15: In modern Europe, regions, similarly to enterprises carrying out activities
under market economy conditions, are placed in a strongly competitive
environment. Regions have to compete with each other for capital inflow,
enhanced accessibility for tourists, increased life standards, development of
infrastructure or lowered unemployment. In practical terms, there has been no
case ever of a successful region without a well-functioning airport.
Research shows that up to 30% of entrepreneurs performing their activities in
regions that have an airport at their disposal point to satisfactory air
connections as the decisive factor for the selection of investment location.
Therefore, it is not a coincidence that the Katowice Special Economic Zone may
take advantage of the highest capital level attracted among all the zones of
this type established in Poland. KATOWICE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
