Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions A fraction is composed of two numbers. The top number is the Numerator and the bottom number is the Denominator. 3 Numerator 5 Denominator

Mixed Numbers to Improper Fractions The diagram below shows one way to illustrate a Fraction. First we divide a length into a number of spaces. The number of spaces shows the Denominator. The number of filled spaces shows the Numerator. = 3/5

To convert 1- 2/3 multiply 1 by the denominator 3 and add it to the 2 in the fractional part. 1 x 3 = 3 add to 2 to get 5/3
