WRITING LEVEL 2 Narrative Paragraph Ms. Park

Idioms : 

Idioms Fall off the wagon =to start drinking alcohol again after having stopped completely for a while. = When one resumes an addictive behavior that they are trying to control. Originally referred only to drinking, but is now used for all sorts of things including drugs, smoking, overeating, eating certain foods, etc. Example: Joe hadn't had a drink in 10 years, but when his wife left him, he fell off the wagon.

Portfolio : 

Portfolio DO NOT write anything on the folder Remove the staples from your papers Make sure you have marked: brainstorming/ outline/ first draft/ second draft/ final draft at the top of the pages (and your name). The final draft should be on top, then second, first, outline, and brainstorming

Check! : 

Check! Make sure you have all the drafts If some drafts are missing in your portfolio, find and add them now OR bring them by Thursday. I will collect the folders again today Make a note of what you need to add, and have them ready by Thursday.

Review : 

Review What characteristics should a good narrative paragraph have? give background information in the TS. have a clear beginning, middle, and end. entertain and inform use vivid, descriptive language that paints a picture

Topic Sentence : 

Topic Sentence • includes who, where and when • prepares the reader for the story e.g. I will never forget the first time when I got lost in New York City.

The Body: Beginning : 

The Body: Beginning begin telling the story, but don’t mention the problem/event yet e.g. I was travelling with my parents during summer vacation. We were in an incredibly large department store, and I was so excited to see such a huge place.

Body: Middle : 

Body: Middle Now begin telling about the problem, conflict or event • rise to a climax • attempt to solve the problem (but don’t solve it yet) e.g. Suddenly I turned around to ask my mom something, but she was gone! I began crying and screaming…a salesclerk notified the customers that a little boy was lost.

Body: Beginning & Middle : 

Body: Beginning & Middle chronological order of events use descriptive language and keep your reader engaged (interested)

End : 

End Solve the problem The story ends e.g. The boy met his parents.

Peer Review: Become the Reader : 

Peer Review: Become the Reader Sit in your groups (from last activity) Leave your writings on the desk Move to another group’s table and read one sample from that group complete the review Move to another group’s table and repeat until you have read a sample from each group.

Homework Correct and hand in your biography Study for the timed writing Bring journal writing notebooks * Those who did not hand in ALL the drafts (multiple-draft assignments): make sure you bring them by Thursday!
