I started with this image of my roommate and her friend with my dog Rosco… :

Next, I printed the image onto a plain envelope I had sitting in my desk. :

I then took a razor blade to the envelope, and stuffed cheese cloth into it. :

After that, I scanned the envelope and cheese cloth into the computer:

After a little tweaking, I printed the image out. :

The way the cheese cloth came out of the top peaked my interest, so I did a bit of analogue cropping. :

Then I traced some of the outlines of the image with the assistance of a light bulb. :

I then set the paper on a lamp I had previously made out of an air filter, backlighting the highlights I just traced. :

Next I threw it in iPhoto and put it in grayscale to get rid of the red dominating the picture. :

Then I opened it in Preview to reverse the black/white polarity. :

Next I printed it out, and put olive oil as a stop agent on all of the “shadows”. :
