There are many kinds of social issues like child marriage, human trafficking, inter-caste marriage, ragging, child abuse and many more. Among these child abuse is a major issue. SOCIAL ISSUESCHILD ABUSE: CHILD ABUSE By: Sama, veronica & subuhe INTRODUCTION : INTRODUCTION Child Abuse is the physical, sexual, emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child that attacks a childs’ emotions. It can occur in childs home, schools or communities the child interacts with. There are four major categories of Child Abuse: Neglect, Physical, Emotional and Sexual Abuse. CAUSES : CAUSES DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. DRUG AND ALCOHOL PROBLEMS OF PARENTS. LOW PREVALENCE OF SOCIAL TIES. LOW FAMILY INCOME LEVEL. CASTE DISCRIMINATION.TYPES OF CHILD ABUSE: TYPES OF CHILD ABUSE 1.Neglect ABUSE: It is defined as the failure of a person responsible for a child’s care and upbringing to safeguard the child’s emotional and physical health and general well-being. The persistent failures to meet a child’s basic needs results in serious impairment of health and development.Slide 6: 2.PHYSICALABUSE: Physical Abuse is when a person causes a child physical injury or harm by hitting, kicking or burning. It also include not providing enough nourishment and clothing when parents can afford to, is also a kind of abuse.Slide 7: 3.Emotinal abuse: Emotional Abuse is the most difficult to define and recognize and also the one that is least reported. This type of abuse includes anything from belittling child especially in front of others and never praising him. Such behaviour often causes the child to develop problems like stammering, reclusiveness and nervous disorders.Slide 8: 4.SEXUAL ABUSE: Sexual Abuse is defined as a sexual act committed by an adult on a child for entirely the adults pleasure. This can be in the form of rape, sexual molestation, pornography etc.EFFECTS OF CHILD ABUSE: EFFECTS OF CHILD ABUSE Depending on the seriousness, the duration and the sort of abuse the effects can be psychological problems like fears, panic attacks, nightmares; social problems like loss of self confidence and physical problems like eating disorders, headaches and body aches . Conclusion : Conclusion Worldwide, approximately 40 million children are subjected to abuse each year. According to The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, 75 cases of child abuse are reported each year in India while 71% cases go unreported The government of India focusing on child issues had created Ministry of Women and Child Development. There are various N.G.O’s working towards preventing child abuse like Oak Foundation, Elaan foundation and CRY foundation. UNICEF is one the major organization working towards child abuse.
