But today Agra (Taj Mahal) is been identified as “Pollution Intensive Zone” by W.H.O because of the area around the Taj Mahal contains 5 times the amount of suspended particles that the Mahal could not handle. Economic Data : Economic Data According to Press Information Bureau of the GOI- 2,35,00,000 tourist visited the country in the year 2000 accounting to 12753.56 crores of rupees. It is estimated that the Taj Mahal itself takes 14,00,000 tourist a year. Tourism is the 3rd largest contributor to foreign exchange following I.T and Textile sector in India. Problem to be taken seriously : Problem to be taken seriously Such a beautiful site contributing more for the development of the nation w.r.t foreign exchange; should we leave this monument in this pitiful stage and pollute more? Reforms : Reforms In 1996, Supreme Court order 292 coal based industries to switch to natural gas. 100’s of coal burning factories have closed or converted to cleaner fuels. Reintroduction of cycle rickshaw alas ITDP Supreme Court ordered the usage of motorized vehicles. Help of Corporate : Help of Corporate In June 2001, the GOI announced to sign a deal with the TATA group TATA’s commitment focused more on the restoration of the damaged stones and restructuring the existing museum. Tax exemption for TATA group Taj Mahal currently takes in about $2 million at the gate each month Suggestions : Suggestions More and more corporate sector should come and join the hands with the government Making the citizen aware about how and why the preservation is necessary.
