BABY MZ THE PROJECT! BY: Grandma Z Aunt Kristi Cousin Sierra

The Idea: : 

The Idea: Aunt Kristi was sewing a project for herself one day. What began as sewing herself a simple project, became an idea. She thought that this bag would make a good “diaper bag”. Then her mind began to spin. She realized that it would be really nice to make a bag for her new Niece, but it would have to be a special bag, or she figured it wouldn’t get used. She came up with the best idea. This bag would include Baby MZ’s family – giving her something from her ENTIRE family, even though we couldn’t all be there. But how could she do this, she doesn’t know where Mommy’s family is, or how to reach them.

Finding the family: : 

Finding the family: Aunt Kristi needed to find them, but how? The computer is a wonderful and amazing thing. Mommy has a facebook account and Aunt Kristi knew that there was a also an Aunt Kim. But which one of Mommy’s five Kim friends was the “right” one. Thankfully Mommy had a picture of her and Aunt Kim in her album, and Aunt Kim actually used a picture of herself for her profile. So Aunt Kristi was brave, and sent a message….. Here it is: “Before I go farther... I am Craig's sister. Are you Stephanie's sister and if yes I need your help. But whatever you do, DO NOT TELL CRAIG AND STEPHANIE that I have contacted you. I would like to make something for them and want it to be a surprise.”

And the project begins: : 

And the project begins: Aunt Kim was just as excited about the project as Aunt Kristi. She was excited to be included and to help out. Aunt Kristi explained what she would need to complete the project, and Aunt Kim contacted Mommy’s family. Aunt Kristi got together with Grandma Z and Aunt Cindy. They brainstormed about what would be the best fabrics to represent people. Aunt Kristi visited the fabric store many times. It took Aunt Kim, , Great Grandma Jacque & Don, and Grandpa DJ & Grandma Cheryl less than a week to send their fabric.

Putting it all together: : 

Putting it all together: Cousin Sierra and Aunt Kristi spent HOURS cutting squares. After awhile they never wanted to see a 5” square again.

But that wasn’t the end… : 

But that wasn’t the end… Mommy’s family was really “into” this project. Aunt Kristi was shocked when the first package came. Grandma Debbie sent FIVE different fabrics. So then of course, she had to figure out how to use these. So then…

PROJECT #2 was born!!! : 

PROJECT #2 was born!!! Brainstorming began again, HOW could we use all of these different materials? A QUILT!!! This was a big task for Aunt Kristi. She’d never sewn a quilt before. After talking it over with Grandma Z, they decided it was a task they could complete, so then project #2 was now underway.

Beginning project #2 : 

Beginning project #2 Cousin Sierra was “thrilled” to hear about project #2. It meant she would be able to spend more time with her best friend, 5” square! Cousin Sierra was a HUGE help throughout the project. She is now a “PRO” at tracing and cutting 5” squares! In the end Grandma Z and Aunt Kristi complete their very first quilt. Even Grandpa Z offered his help. It was a true family project.
