Tesla’s ingenious design. Rebirth in 2007. How it works? The end of the plug. Advantages from wireless electricity. Disadvantages. Conclusion. Slide 4: Worked with Thomas Alva Edison. Father of the Wireless From 1856 to 1943 An inventor , mechanical/electrical engineer. Innovator Slide 5: Hated war’s and tried to built a weapon. Also known as person to built first radio . Honored by naming SI units of magnetic flux density after his name. Slide 6: Tesla’s ingenious design for the wireless transmission of energy Slide 7: Wardenclyffe 1899 Able to light lamps over 25 miles away without using wires High frequency current, of a Tesla coil, could light lamps filled with gas (like neon) Slide 8: Rebirth in 2007 There’s something new coming up to play with ‘Wireless Electricity’. In the first successful trial of its kind, the team was able to illuminate a 60-watt light bulb 7ft away . The team from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who call their invention ‘WiTricity‘. Slide 9: The inspiration came when the lead researcher, Dr Marin Soljacic, was standing in his kitchen at night staring at his mobile phone. Scientists have known for nearly two centuries that it is possible to transfer an electrical current from one coil of wire to another without them touching. The phenomenon, called electromagnetic induction, is used in power transformers and electric motors around the world. WiTricity Slide 10: A clean-cut vision Slide 11: How wireless energy could work Power from mains to antenna, which is made of copper. Antenna resonates. Tails' of energy from antenna 'tunnel' up to 5m (16.4ft). Electricity is picked up by laptop's antenna. Slide 12: Electrical Resonance •Tendency of a circuit system to oscillate at a maximum amplitude for a certain resonance frequency. •Likely to occur when impedance between input and output is minimized. •Increases the strength of interaction between two related devices •Natural Frequency f =1/2p(LC)0.5 Slide 13: The end of the plug Slide 14: * A U.K based made a charger in 2007. * Charging on pad. *Recharged on normal rate. Slide 15: * A Japan based country developed wireless television in 2009. * Works on the concept by Tesla. *Revolution for electronic devices. Slide 16: Benefits from wireless electricity The system would reduce the cost. The electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires. High Transmission Integrity and Low Loss. Slide 17: Disadvantages : Biological Impact ii. Economic impact Slide 18: CONCLUSION The transmission of power without wires is not a theory or a mere possibility, it is now a reality. The electrical energy can be economically transmitted without wires to any terrestrial distance. Wireless transmission of electricity have tremendous merits like high transmission integrity and Low Loss (90 – 97 % efficient) and can be transmitted to any where in the globe and eliminate the need for an inefficient, costly, and capital intensive grid of cables, towers, and substations. The system would reduce the cost of electrical energy used by the consumer and get rid of the landscape of wires, cables, and transmission towers. It has negligible demerits like reactive power which was found insignificant and biologically compatible. It has a tremendous economic impact to human society.
