This is the first mission of the Constellation program, which aims to take Americans back to the moon by 2020. An empty Centaur rocket that weighs 2.2 tons should hit the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS). Data sent back before LCROSS' crash was analyzed for signs of water ice. NASA scientists hope water in the form of ice. Large amounts of frozen water available is necessary for future missions to the Moon, as water is so heavy and expensive to life into space from Earth.
