Little Rich Girl Tragedy Father killed by bandits!! Esperanza loses everything!! House burns down!! Abuelita (grandmother) broke her ankle during the fire.

Riches to Rags: 

Riches to Rags Fled to America!! Living through the Great Depression. Hard labor in food packaging shed. Family struggles to survive. Abuelita (grandmother) must stay in Mexico.

Family Sickness: 

Family Sickness A dust storm comes through the camp where Esperanza and momma were living causing momma to get Valley Fever. Momma got pneumonia due to the Valley Fever.
