Introduction:

Introduction The name Kashmir is derived from two words ka (the water) and shimeera (to desiccate), so the word Kashmir implies land desiccated from water. The natural beauty of the valley of Kashmir is well known widely and has deservedly won high praise from travelers, since time immemorial. The first Himalayan State of India, Jammu and Kashmir is divided into mainly three regions, the foothill plains of Jammu;

History Vedic Civilization extended much over northern India, Pakistan, Afghanistan. Since ancient times, Kashmir has been part of the Himalayan region of Bharatvarsha . Finds mentions also in Mahabharata. Kashmir is also the birthplace of Shaivism , Shiv Sutra revealed by Lord Shiva to sage Vasuguptacharya , and Panini, the famous Sanskrit grammarian. Till 11th century, Kashmir was important part of the powerful Hindu monarchs whose kingdoms spanned till Central Asia. Important centre also in the Buddhist era

History of tourism in Kashmir :

History of tourism in Kashmir The state of Jammu & Kashmir is a region of widely varying people and geography. In the south, Jammu is a transition zone from the Indian plains to the Himalaya . Nature has lavishly endowed Kashmir with certain distinctive favors which hardly find a parallel in any alpine land of the world. It is the land of snow clad mountains that shares a common boundary with Afghanistan, China and Pakistan, Jammu and Kashmir is the northernmost state of the Indian Union. Known for its extravagant natural beauty this land formed a major caravan route in the ancient times .

Religious Freedom :

Religious Freedom Belief in pantheism and restrained modernism are at the basis of both Sanatana Hinduism and Islam . Large number of Kashmiris are originally Hindus who were forcefully converted into becoming Muslims. Large-hearted, poly-theistic India offers more freedom and benefits also to Muslims who have prospered faster in India than in Pakistan. Centuries old India’s Sanatana Hinduism is the most tolerant, conducive & progressive of all other faiths. India’s poly-theism has also helped cross section of religious followers to freely follow their religion.

KASHMIR CULTURE :

KASHMIR CULTURE The cultural significance of Kashmir is great.  The people of the region have made great contributions to the world of culture in the form of their oral histories, their native crafts, the written word, science and philosophy.  Many people who travel to Kashmir do so specifically to experience the culture and tradition of the area .

Kashmir On A Boat Rulers have called the area now known as Kashmir “Paradise on Earth.”  The Valley, pinned between several mountain ranges, is one of the most beautiful spots on earth and has become a favorite place to travel.

PAHALGAM: the Village of Shepherds… The Lidder river runs through Pahalgam in a rushing gray-green torrent, foam flecked, breaking in curling waves against the boulders that lie in its path. Its sound is an eternal as the whisper of wind through pine and fir, its force primeval its untamed splendor.

SIGHT SEEING OF JAMMU & KASHMIR Mata Vaishno Devi Temple : The holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi here attracts more than 4.5 million pilgrims every year. Katra Town, lying in the foot of Trikuta Mountains, 48 kms . from Jammu, serves as the base camp for visiting the famous shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, which is accessible on foot along a 13 kms long well laid footpath.

RAGHUNATH TEMPLE : Situated in the heart of the city and surrounded by a group of other temples, this temple dedicated to Lord Rama is outstanding and unique in Northern India.
