No single model can explain all aspects of color. Why color models RGB, YIQ, CMY, HSV, and HSL. Different output devices, video monitor, printer, plotter, and so on. Properties of Light : Properties of Light Three properties we perceive in a light source Hue What is the "Hue“ A dominant frequency of the light The color of a object The combination of frequencies present in the reflected light determines the color of the object Brightness What is the "brightness“ The perceived intensity of the light Intensity Is the radiant energy emitted per unit time, per unit solid angle and per unit projected area of the source Purity, Saturation What is the "Saturation" How "pure" the color of the light appears Color Matching : Color Matching Some different-color light sources with suitably chosen intensities can be used to produce a range of other colors approximately Color gamut Color model use three colors to obtain a wide range of colors Primary colors The two or three colors used to produce other colors in a color model Complementary color Color A + Color B = White Color RGB Color Model : RGB Color Model Principles Based on the Tristimulus theory of vision The retina has peak sensitivities at 630nm(red), 530nm(green), and 450nm(blue) Application Used for displaying color on a video monitor Color representation, (R, G, B) C(Y) = RR + GG + BB Also known as, additive model The RGB color model, defining colors withan additive process within the unit cube : The RGB color model, defining colors withan additive process within the unit cube YIQ Color Model : YIQ Color Model Application NTSC color model for television monitor Composting video signal into a single signal Representation Y: luminance (brightness), i.e., a combination of red, green, and blue intensities Y= 0.299R+0.587G+0.114B I: orange-cyan hue information I= R- Y Q: green-magenta hue information Q= B- Y Color model conversion Y 0.229 0.587 0.144 R I = 0.596 -0.275 -0.321 G Q 0.212 -0.528 0.311 B CMY Color Model : CMY Color Model Application Useful for describing color output to hard-copy devices Representation A subtractive process (reflected light) (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow) Grays : equal amounts of CMY Black : extra ink Color model conversion You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
