Premium member Presentation Transcript Emerging and Future Technology : by Shauna Cromwell Emerging and Future Technology Overhead Projector vs. SMART Board Obsolete Technology : Obsolete Technology The obsolete technology chosen for this project is the overhead projector. The overhead projector, projected images on a screen and enabled teachers to show examples from worksheet and books to their students. Emerging Technology : Emerging Technology The emerging technology selected for this project is the SMART Board. The SMART Board is an interactive system that links images from your computer onto your screen as well as view webpages, and movies. An evolutionary technology is the progression of a technology from the beginning to end. Opaque Projector Overhead Projector Interactive Whiteboard (SMART Board) Evolutionary Technologies on Obsolete Technology’s Original Emergence : Evolutionary Technologies on Obsolete Technology’s Original Emergence The overhead projector came on the scene in 1940s where the police used them for criminal profiles and the military used them for trainings. Evolutionary Technologies : Evolutionary Technologies The overhead projector didn’t gain a lot of popularity in education until the 1960s. Teachers used them for lectures, notes, the overhead used transparency paper which made it easier and more convenient for teachers to deliver their lessons. During the 80s and 90s the overhead was the most popular technology used in the classroom. Evolutionary Technology : Evolutionary Technology The first SMART Board was introduced in 1991 by the company SMART. The SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard, that allows you to project images from your computer onto the screen, you can also browse web pages, show movies, and make games. The interactive board allows you to write on it as well as move things around the board. The first SMART Boards only allowed one person to manipulate the board, new boards allow two people to work at the same time. Rhymes of History : Rhymes of History The rhyme of history is how past technologies affected or influenced new technology. Rhymes of History on Obsolete Technology’s Original Emergence : Rhymes of History on Obsolete Technology’s Original Emergence Before there was the overhead projector there was the opaque projector. Invented in 1911 the opaque projector shone a bright light onto a non transparent object which was then reflected Disruptive Technology : Disruptive Technology A disruptive technology is something that displaces an old technology. Disruptive Technology : Disruptive Technology The makers of the SMART Board wanted a board that could be interactive. wanted people to be able to move things around on the board to show different view points. wanted to be able to make notes on papers and websites, capture those notes and be able to print them out as a handout. Disruptive Technology : Disruptive Technology Science Fiction : Science Fiction Imagination of creative thinkers In the movies things are always being projected on a screen. Students are always playing video games and watching TV, it only makes since education tries to get them interested with something interactive like the SMART Board Increasing Returns : Increasing Returns Is the war against two competing technologies that come out at the same time The SMART Board is in competition with other interactive board companies like Panasonic and Hitachi. Red Queens : Red Queens The competition between two technologies that leave behind all competitors I don’t believe that there is a red queen with the SMART Boards, interactive whiteboards in general have just really started growing in the education industry so they are their only competition. Interview : Interview Ms. Sherry Baker Business Education Interview : Interview Dr. Sandy Jennings Media Specialist Interview : Interview Dr. Annie Welborn Curriculum Coordinator Consent Forms : Consent Forms Interview Questions : Interview Questions Interview Questions How long have your been teaching? What subject area do you teach? When you began teaching what technologies were available to your classroom? What are some comparisons between the overhead projector and the SMART Board? What are some of the differences between the overhead projector and the SMART Board? Who made the decision to have a SMART Board in the classroom? Was there input from the teachers? What are the benefits of having the SMART Board in your classroom/school? What problems did the SMART Board alleviate or create? Do you foresee any technology replacing the SMART Board in the future? Future of SMART Board : Future of SMART Board I foresee that the SMART Board will be available in every k-12 classroom in the future. I also foresee that you will be able to plug the SMART Board directly into your computer without the use of a projector. You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
