Healthcare Sector :

MCG & EF-HFMC Healthcare Sector

The MENA healthcare :

This initiative is expected to flourish more and more due to so many factors including : medical tourism , the private-public partnerships new legislation and the strong contribution of the non-governmental organization in the field of healthcare e.g. MEK ( around EGP 250 million/year ). MCG & EF-HFMC The MENA healthcare Has posted an unprecedented growth over the past few years on the back of governments active support. The governments has identified healthcare as one of the priority sectors in the current budget ( Rashid Mohamed expected to invite $ 14 billion in the sector of healthcare year 2011-2012) and is determined to develop healthcare infrastructure and services to make them accessible to patients.

Sustain its growth pace :

We believe that MENA healthcare industry is expected to sustain its growth pace in near future owing to the escalation of the burden of diseases ( more than 25 % of the population of GCC and Egypt are diabetic ) and inappropriate demographic balance which will create demand for better healthcare facilities. MCG & EF-HFMC Sustain its growth pace

GDP Growth & health conscious :

Moreover the inhabitants of theses countries have become more health conscious, leading to an increase in the usage of more expensive therapies and high innovative products. MCG & EF-HFMC GDP Growth & health conscious The region as a whole saw a slight increase in GDP growth to 6.1 percent in 2008 compared with 5.6 percent in 2007. A wide range of economic and structural reforms were adopted in the region while public and private investment projects were launched to pursue economic diversification and human capital development as well as investment in oil and gas, infrastructure, and other economic sectors.

Funds and sectors of interest :

MCG & EF-HFMC Funds and sectors of interest Egypt 14 %

Outlook of HC employment :

In US; Healthcare will generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population. MCG & EF-HFMC Outlook of HC employment In Egypt; Many job openings should arise in all healthcare employment settings as a result of the new strong movement towards investment and/or stimulation package for this sectors. Also the big NGO organization e.g. MEK announced a very courageous healthcare plan all over the southern provinces of Egypt witch will increase the rate of employment in most of the patient’s sectors of healthcare industry.

Outlook of Earnings :

Average earnings of workers in most healthcare segments are lower than the average for all other private industry ( in Egypt ). Hospital workers earning considerably more than the average and those employed in nursing and residential care facilities and home healthcare services earning less. Average earnings often are higher in hospitals because the percentage of jobs requiring higher levels of education and training is greater than in other segments. Those segments of the industry with lower earnings employ large numbers of part-time service workers. MCG & EF-HFMC Outlook of Earnings

Future Outlook - Employment :

Many facilities have cut the number of middle managers, while simultaneously creating new managerial positions as the facilities diversify. Traditional inpatient hospital positions are no longer the only option for many future healthcare workers; persons seeking a career in the field must be willing to work in various employment settings. MCG & EF-HFMC Future Outlook - Employment Many facilities have cut the number of middle managers, while simultaneously creating new managerial positions as the facilities diversify. Traditional inpatient hospital positions are no longer the only option for many future healthcare workers; persons seeking a career in the field must be willing to work in various employment settings.

Future Outlook - Employment :

Demand for dental care will rise due to greater retention of natural teeth by middle-aged and older persons, greater awareness of the importance of dental care, and an increased ability to pay for services. Dentists will use support personnel such as dental hygienists and assistants to help meet their increased workloads. MCG & EF-HFMC Future Outlook - Employment Demand for tele-medicine expert / data transfer & management expert / IT expert / healthcare economists / actuarial expert / Hi-tech maintenance will rise due to the fast growing of healthcare insurance sector including the social and the private one. Hospitals will be the slowest growing segment within the healthcare industry because of efforts to control hospital costs and the increasing use of outpatient clinics and other alternative care sites.

Solving the conflict within the industry :

Aligning hospital, physician and medical insurance expectations bring together industry stakeholders to work more closely together in delivering long-term sustainable healthcare for patients and maintain a healthy healthcare industry. Aligning physicians to hospital objectives: Many physicians and surgeons prefer to join group practices because they afford backup coverage, reduce overhead expenses, and facilitate consultation with peers. In Egypt ; Physicians and surgeons are usually not working as salaried employees of group medical practices, clinics, or integrated health systems. MCG & EF-HFMC Solving the conflict within the industry

The greatest unresolved problems? :

Medical : Emergency care in situ Neurological outcome of brain insult Autoimmune diseases Managerial: The dilemma of the conflict of interest between physicians , hospital and insurance MCG & EF-HFMC The greatest unresolved problems?

Gaps :

The most significant gaps the developing countries will face are : retaining the best healthcare providers. Adaptation of the very advanced technology The new model of distant treatment will make earnings for the ordinary physicians very difficult and most of the well trained doctors and nurses and hi-technicians will spend their productive lives outside our countries, most properly in Europe and in turkey. MCG & EF-HFMC Gaps

Skills of the future health managers :

The competences needed shall include a total new package which should suit distant treatment and telemedicine and retirees medical tourism: 1- Intercultural diversification management skills 2- Multi-linguistic manager. 3- Robotic management skills. 4- Cost containment management and 5- Interactive time management "distant treatment will need a new model for time management". MCG & EF-HFMC Skills of the future health managers

The role of national agencies to improve health outcomes in the 21st century? :

The role of these agencies should focus on the following three items: 1- Evident based medicine 2- CPD and CME 3- Behavioral studies and its relation to disease eradication. MCG & EF-HFMC The role of national agencies to improve health outcomes in the 21st century?

One intelligent action ! :

Globalization in healthcare services is the one action would have the greatest impact on improving health management? MCG & EF-HFMC One intelligent action !

Optimistic future :

The baseline for our optimistic future outlook of MENA healthcare industry is the enhanced participation and high investments by private players into medical infrastructure ( Alexandria tenders )and supply of pharmaceuticals to the population. In addition, the expected launch of the social healthcare insurance in Egypt and in most of the countries will create a strong demand for primary health care services and primary health care level drugs such as generics and antibiotics. MCG & EF-HFMC Optimistic future

Optimistic future :

As a result, the pharmaceutical industry, information technology and distribution are expected to grow. Moreover, biotechnology and R&D are expected to grow but at a lower rate. This will draw the attention of world’s leading healthcare providers and make the MENA healthcare sector a lucrative area for further investments. MCG & EF-HFMC Optimistic future
