A VISIT TO THE MOTHER NATURE’S OWN STATE(15 NIGHTS 16 DAYS FOR 8 STUDENTS OF TRAVEL AND TOURISM TO PROMOTE JHARKHAND TOURISM) Jharkhand is popularly known as Vananchal (meaning land of woods). The state of Jharkhand was carved out from the state of Bihar on November 15, 2000. The date is important as it also marks the birth anniversary of the legendary Bhagwan Birsa Munda The state capital is Ranchi, which is also the industrial city of the state ,which also used to be the colonial summer capital of Bihar- as its capital. Jharkhand is the 28th state of the India Union. Surrounded by Bihar to the north, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh to the west, Orissa to the south, and West Bengal to the east , the area we now know as Jharkhand is a region of great natural wealth. Mineral Resourses abound, resulting in a proliferation of industrial centers like Ranchi, Jamshedpur,Bokaro, and Dhanbad . Comprising the forest tracks of the Chhotanagpur plateau and the Santhal Parganas,the area has vibrant cultural traditions. Jharkhand is home to many tribal groups,and the state prides itself on its distinct tribal identity. Jharkhand is spread over an area of 79,714 sq.km. The region is dotted with hills, valleys and plateaus and altitudes range from 1,000 to 4,000 feet. There are 22 districts of Jharkhand , namely-Garhwa,Palamu, Chatra, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Giridih, Deoghar, Dumka, Godda, Pakur, Sahebganj, Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ranchi, Lohardaga , Gulma, West Singhbhum, East Singhbhum, Saraikela Kharsawan, Jamtara, Simdega and Latehar.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 1 (30/Aug/2008) Jamshedpur Arrive at the Jamshedpur Airport at 0530 Hours. Check-in the Boulevard Hotel,D Costa Mansion Bistupur.Take breakfast and rest. Depart for Saraikela Kharsawan on a Coach. See the fantastic Chhau dance and the school of art. Enjoy the packed lunch there. In the afternoon leave for Chandil Dam. Enjoy the evening there. And return back to the hotel. Have dinner and rest.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 2 (31/Aug /2008) Jamshedpur After breakfast start the day for some sports & amusement. First visit Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary to see elephant, leopard, Mouse Deer, Barking Deer&Wild Boar .At 1100 hours leave for Dimna Lake. Enjoy water sports at the lake. Have the packed lunch there. Take the relaxing Tour to Ghatsila about 70 Kms from Jamshedpur. See the beautiful terrain of Ghatsila and the monuments of historical importance. Return back to Jamshedpur by 2030 hours . Have dinner and rest.

Nu mber of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 3 (01/Sep/2008) Jamshedpur After the breakfast get started for a city tour-Starting with the Tata Steel Plant, visit Telco . Packed lunch at Jubilee Park – get amused with the rides in Jubliee Amusement Park, and the nearby located Tata Steel Zoological Park. Return back to the hotel and drive with the same coach to Chaibasa about 60 Kms away. After Dinner at the Guest House have a goodnight sleep.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 4 (02/Sep/2008) Chaibasa Early next morning after breakfast leave with the luggage for the temples of Kera and Goilkera. Marvel the picturesque site of Toybo Fall a place where Koel and Karo River merges near Manoharpur.Reach Tholkobad the heart land of Saranda. Enjoy lunch at the beautiful forest rest house that is just fascinating . Visit the nearby places Ligirda Swamp, Loyall’s view and drive to Saranda Forest – Asia’s largest Sal Forest and Jharkhand’s Pride – Full of exciting and colorful flora and fauna , Sal Trees , birds and reptiles , especially the majestic elephants. Now drive the afternoon to Kiriburu about 2,800 feet of height, witness the magical sunset in the hills of Saranda . Enjoy dinner at the SAIL Guest House.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 5 (03/Sep/2008) Netarhat After breakfast leave the hotel by 0800 hours for a long drive of 7 hours (that is 210 Kms) in the same coach for Netarhat- South west of Jharkhand . After a tiring long drive have lunch at Prabhat Vihar and rest . Evening free & also the beautiful sunset. Dinner at the hotel .

NO OF DAYS DESTINATION ACTIVITY SCHEDULE Day 6(04/Sep/2008) Netarhat The sunrise at Netarhat- the Queen of Jharkhand . After breakfast start the day with waterfalls- Lower Ghaghri, Upper Ghaghri, Lodh, Badni & Rajadera. Take the packed lunch and end the day with Sugabandh Waterfall. Dinner at the hotel.

NO OF DAYS DESTINATION ACTIVITY SCHEDULE Day 7 (05/Sep/2008) Betla National Park After breakfast check-out of the hotel and leave for Betla National Park about 90 Kms- a 2 hour journey. Check-in Van Vihar Tourist Complex. Leave for the National Park to see the Gaur, Chital, Elephant, Tiger, Panther, Sloth and wild Bear, Sambhar, Nilgai, Kakar, mouse deer and Langurs.Visit the small but enchanting Mirchaiya Waterfall. Return to see Palamu Tiger Reserve. Have the packed lunch. Depart for a two and a half hour ;ong drive to Nagar Utari- a temple and Tourist Spot. Return to Betla . Dine and rest .

NO OF DAYS DESTINATION ACTIVITY SCHEDULE Day 8 (06/Sep/2008) Hazaribagh Early morning check-out the hotel after breakfast at 0800 hours. After a 3 and a half Hours drive to Urwan Resort- Check-in. After lunch leave for Koderma Sanctuary known for the flora fauna , wild boars and porcupines. Drive across the Dam to Itkhori a holy place for the Jains. Return to Tilaiya Dam by 1750 hours . View the Barakar River, the reservoir and the Jungle. The Chacha Nehru Island is the memorable one. Return to the resort for dinner and rest.

NO OF DAYS DESTINATION ACTIVITY SCHEDULE Day 9 (07/sep/2008) Hazaribagh Post breakfast depart for Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary a 60 Kms distance covered by coach in one and a half hours time. –to see Tiger, Leopard, Elephant, Cheetal, Nilgai, Barking deer, & Wild Bear Hyaena. Nearly located is Lawalong Sanctuary where tiger, leopard, sambhar, cheetal, barking deer, wild boar, Langur, Nilgai & Hyaena can be seen .Enjpy the packed lunch. Take off from Hazaribagh to view the pre-historic cave paintings of Sitabhenga & Shivabhenga. In Satpahar view one of the greatest rock galleries. Then visit the last site for the day- the town of Barkagaon, in the heart of Hazaribag valley- to encounter possibly the only known Indian megalith site known as Barwadi Pankhri – astunning reminder of the stonehedge- like past of the country. Return to the resort for dinner and rest.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 10 (08/Sep/2008) Parasnath After breakfast leave the resort for Parasnath about 100 Kms, Consuming 2 hours,en-route view the Surajkund Hot Spring and Bagodar a temple place. Check-in a tourist Guest house in Parasnath. After lunch depart at 1400 hours for Topchachi Bird Sanctuary, for 1 hour.Then return to Parasnath- get emerged into the religious surrounding of Parsnath Temple- the highest hill in Jharkhand towering to an elevation of 440 ft, also the most holy place of the Jains. Evening free till 2000 hours. Drive with luggage for 35 Kms to Giridih and check-in the Tourist Guest house. Dinner at the hotel and rest.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day 11(09/Sep/2008) Giridih Early morning after breakfast leave for the Usri Fall with luggage for some adventure activities such as paragliding and parasailing which is in growth in the State.Enjoy the packed lunch. Travel 2 hours i.e 104 Kms to Deoghar home to complex of 22 temples of which the biggest and the tallest at 72 ft is the temple of Baidyanath Dham. The pilgrimage ends at Basukhinath, a hilly, scenic town about 43 Kms from with Trikuti en-routte. Check-in a Tourist Bunglow in Basukhinath by 2100 hours .

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day12(10/Sep/2008) Basukhinath Early morning after breakfast at 0800 hours leave for Sahebganj at 114 Kms or 2 and a half hours coach drive . Enjoy the exotic beauty of nature the Moti Fall. Have packed lunch and move ahead to a historical site-Rajmahal-the ruins of Rajmahal and Jami Masjid near Sahebganj build by Mughal Emperor’s trusted general Raj Maan Singh. Then continue with Udhwa Bird Sanctuary- evening free at the Udhwa Lake. Check-in to the Tourist Bunglow at Udhwa by 2030 hours . Have dinner and rest.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day13 (11/sep/2008) Udhwa After breakfast at 0800 hours,drive 114 Kms to Masanjore Dam which would take 2 and a half hours time . With Maluti en-route – the 19th century terracotta temples on the Dumka-Rampurhat interstate highway. After enjoying the scenic beauty of the Dam have the packed lunch and continue with two more Dams about 90 Kms away-namely Maithan Dam followed by Panchet Dam about further 43 Kms towards the eastern borders of Jharkhand. Arrive to Dhanbad some one hour drive , by 2130 hours and check-in to Hotel Skylark. Dinner at the hotel and rest.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day14(12/Sep/2008) Dhanbad Early morning after breakfast at 0800 hours, leave the hotel with the luggage for ISM(Indian Institute Of Mines),then Sindri –within local distances i.e 30 Kms(a famous fertilizer complex, and also an engineering College- on the bank of river Damodar. A 50 Kms drive to Bokaro Steel City. Lunch in a restaurant in Bokaro at 1300 hours. Again a 50 Kms drive further to Tenughat Dam for an hour. Nearly within local distances is Rajrappa Temple on the banks of rivers Damodar and Bhera. Drive 100 Kms from there to the Capital of the State- Ranchi. Check-in the Hotel Capitol Hill in the heart of the city by 1900 hours. Evening free, dinner at the hotel.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day15(12/Sep/2008)Ranchi Early morning after breakfast at 0800 hours,you can join in the morning prayers at Saint Mary’s Cathedral, as it is a Friday.Wherefrom drive to Mccluskiegunj a historical detour- a quaint 1932 Anglo-Indian settlement setup by a English philanthropist on the outskirts of Ranchi. This would take 2 hours to drive there. Return to the hotel for lunch at 1400 hours time. Now you have the option of visiting two Dams and Hundru Falls in the outskirts of the city itself. Or within the city you can visit Kanke Dam, Rock Garden, Tagore Hill, War Cemetry, Nakshatra Van, Ormanjhi, Pahari Mandir,Sun Temple or Hatia Dam. Evening free in the Main Road for shopping. Dinner at the hotel.

Number of Days Destination Activity Schedule Day16(13/Sep/2008) Ranchi After the breakfast at 0800 hours be ready to follow a chain of five waterfalls – namely Hunru, Jonha, Dasam, Sita, Panchghagh,and Hirni Waterfalls, all within local limits. You can enjoy packed lunch en-route. Return the hotel by 2100 hours. Have dinner at the hotel. There will be a departure to the airport by 2200 hours.
