Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association (SCA):: 

Saskatchewan Cattlemen’s Association (SCA): Provides representation from all sectors of the industry and all regions of the province Represents all cattle producers Established as a Development Commission, the SCA invests levies collected through the sale of beef cattle in Saskatchewan, to promote and develop the industry

January 29, 2009 - under the authority of The Agri-Food Act, 2004, the SCA is established. It operates according to The Cattle Development Plan Regulations July 29, 2010 - Cabinet approves the amended Cattle Development Plan regulations August 4, 2010 – SCA officially takes over the levy collection SCA – recent history

Pre-SCA levy history: 

Pre-SCA levy history April 18, 1970 – legislation enacted at request of beef cattle producers – deduction set at $0.10/head February 1984 – legislation amended to increase deduction to $0.50/head March 24, 1987 – regulations amended to increase deduction to $1.00/head 1998 – regulations amended to collect National Market Development and Promotion levy of $1.00/head

Current Issues The SCA has been an active stakeholder in the consultation process surrounding the Beef Cattle Research and Teaching Unit (BCRTU) at the University of Saskatchewan The long-term goal is to build the most progressive beef research facility in the country Provincial government review of all current beef and forage research activities in the province
