Pros: :

Pros: versatile and includes many hands-on activities Could be used in an inclusion classroom, or a classroom that serves only children with special needs Can be adapted to a range of abilities, whether physical, behavioral, or intellectual Teacher is able to involve other topic areas, such as literacy or math

Example of versatility:

Example of versatility Possible changes that could be made: Whole-group activity E ach child could have his or her own celery stalk in a cup of colored water Child could tell adult what to write child could use stamps to tell how many days has passed. This could be an activity that is done with a variety of different plants at once, not just as talk of celery. ex: romaine lettuce, carnation, etc. class could make a video diary of what is happening with the plant teacher could do the celery-soaking ahead of time to show the students photos of each day in order to condense the total time of the project

Cons::

Cons: Amount of freedom placed into the hands of the teacher could potentially result in not enough of the important standards being covered. If a teacher decides to change an aspect of one of the given activities, he or she will need to ensure that the standards or focuses of the lesson are not changed in the process.
