Things to pay close attention to as you construct your timeline…. Make sure your number line is evenly spaced Do not skip numbers Include both positive and negative numbers Mark each segment of your number line in twelfths to mark the months of each year Include fractions!
Twelfths:
Twelfths Reduce your fractions to lowest terms. Ex: If you were born in August and your picture is from your first Christmas, you would be 4 months old. The fraction would be 4/12 which reduces to 1/3. You would mark your line at 4/12 and label your picture 1/3.
Measuring in Twelfths:
Measuring in Twelfths Most rulers are divided into either 8, 10, or 16 sections. Use a ruler to measure in half, then in fourths. Divide each fourth into 3 parts (two marks) and you’ll have twelfths.
