ABSTRACT: Wireless network shortly called as WLAN (IEEE 802.11/b/g) works on two modes – Ad hoc and Infrastructure modes . Ad hoc network is P2P(or F2F ) mode. Ad hoc does not use any intermediate device such as Access Point but Infrastructure mode use Access Point as interface between wireless clients. Adhoc mode does not implement Four way handshake and RTS/CTS concept which increases the latency. Moreover it eliminates the hidden terminal and excess exposure problems. Hence it results in high speed transmission. This project investigates the performance of IEEE 802.11b/g ad hoc networks with minimal channel separation.This analysis reveals how ad hoc mode eliminates the network overhead that is applied to the wi-fi frames in Extended service Mode. The purpose of the project is to establish both ad hoc network and extended service network and to safeguard WLANs using authentication methods.
