Slide2:

Figueres is the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), and houses the Dalí Theatre-Museum, the main Dalí museum in Spain, designed by the artist himself. The museum houses one of the best Dalí collections of art in the world, featuring not only paintings and drawings, but also three-dimensional installations and sculptures. This is also where the artist is buried. The Dalí Theatre-Museum calls itself “the largest surrealistic object in the world” Since Salvador Dalí death in 1989, the crypt where he is buried can also be visited at the centre of the museum. This area was remodeled in 1997 to exhibit a collection of gold jewels designed by the artist

Under the stage, in the Room N8 – visitors approach the tomb of the Great Surrealist. Salvador Dali died in 1989, the body was embalmed and Salvador Dali was wearing a crown, with a ruby letter “M”: The King of Spain – Juan Carlos I – officially granted a title of Marquis de Pubol to Salvador Dali. The tomb was opened once, in 2017 – the exhumation was ordered by a judge from Madrid in order to obtain samples for DNA paternity test – Maria Pilar Abel Martinez claimed Dali to be her father: the test proved that Dali and Ms Abel are not related. Since Salvador Dalí death in 1989, the crypt where he is buried  can also be visited at the centre of the museum.
