The Bucegi Mountains are located in central Romania, south of the city Braşov.The Bucegi is believed to be the Dacian holy mountain Kogainon, on which the God Zalmoxis resided in a cave. At a higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, the wind and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular figures such as the Sphinx and Babele.

The Black Tower was built in 1494 on a rock on Starja Hill, near the Blacksmiths' bastion. It has a square shape and it is 9 m high. In 1599 the tower was destroyed by lightning. So, it's got it's name from its walls being blackened by the fire caused by the lightning. Today, it is no longer black.

Sinaia The Sinaia Monastery, was founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Sinai Monastery on Mount Sinai. Situated in the Prahova Valley, the monastery gave its name to the nearby town of Sinaia.
