Comiso (Sicilian: Còmmisu) is a municipality in the Ragusa Province , i t has existed since before Byzantine times. Comiso was devastated by the 1693 earthquake and rebuilt on the same spot as the old ruins in the Sicilian Baroque style. Saint Blaise is the patron saint of Comiso. Saint day Last Sunday of July Saint Blaise (Greek: Agios Vlasios) was a physician, and bishop of Sebastea, Armenia. According to his Acta Sanctorum, he was martyred by being beaten, attacked with iron carding combs, and beheaded. He is known as San Biagio in Italy, San Blas in Spain and São Brás in Portugal. Marco Polo reported the place where "Meeser Saint Blaise obtained the glorious crown of martyrdom", Sevasta (now Sivas, Turkey). His cult became widespread in Europe in the eleventh and twelfth centuries. St. Blaise is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers or Auxiliary Saints and his legend is recounted in the fourteenth-century Legenda Aurea. Saint Blaise is the saint of the wild beast. Comiso (în siciliană Còmmisu) este un orăşel în Provincia Ragusa care, după cutremurul din anul 1693 ce a distrus aproape toate casele şi a lăsat doar bisericile SS. Annunziata şi San Biagio , a fost refăcut pe vechiul amplasament, în stil baroc sicilian. Sfântul Sfântul Mucenic Vlasie a trăit pe vremea împăratului Liciniu. Era episcopul Sevastiei şi locuia într-una din peşterile muntelui. Fiarele sălbatice se îmblânziseră prin binecuvântarea sfântului, încât se apropiau cu toate de mâinile lui. Pentru că se pricepea şi la meşteşugul doctoricesc, făcea multe tămăduiri, primind de la Dumnezeu darul de a face minuni. Fiind însă prins, a fost adus la ighemonul Agricolau şi mărturisind înaintea lui numele lui Hristos, a fost chinuit cumplit si apoi ucis. Cultul lui s-a răspândit în Europa în secolele XII-XIII, numit Sveti Vlaho, Blasius, Blaise, Biagio, San Blas sau São Brás . Salvatore Adamo s-a născut la Comiso

The road leading up to Ragusa, notably the final stretch, provides impressing views of the Ippari Valley and the coast. The country-side is densely populated, most due to presence of factories and hothouse plantations. Richest in water reserves, Comiso is among the most fertile and top agricultural producers of Sicily.

The feast of San Biagio is an annual festival that takes place in Sicily on the second Sunday in July. This feast is dedicated to the patron saint of the region of Comiso, with the region celebrating their patron saint several times a year, but with the main event of the annual Feast of San Biagio in Sicily in July. The festival is more of a family event rather than a religious occasion, when the region hosts parades, fairs and processions to celebrate. The feast is a colorful and vibrant affair and features unique costumes.
