Designed to evoke a gigantic teardrop, the structure was created by two Frenchmen, Michel Arnault and Pierre Parat, in 1994. Sanctuarul „Sf ânta Fecioară a Lacrimilor” este una dintre cele mai neobişnuite construcţii sau biserici din toată Sicilia. Forma clădirii vrea să reprezinte o lacrimă gigantică, şi a fost creată în anul 1994 de doi arhitecţi francezi Michel Arnault şi Pierre Parat (ei au proiectat şi Société Générale Twin Towers din La Defense, Paris).Slide 5: Stemm a dell a Provinci a Siracusa Madonna delle Lacrime dominates the city Syracuse with its 103 -meters high Sanctuarul „Sf ânta Fecioară a Lacrimilor” domină oraşul cu înălţimea sa de 103 de metri.Slide 7: Stemm a dell a Citta SiracusaSlide 8: To build the Shrine, as desired by the Bishops of Sicily, an international competition was held. One hundred architects from 17 nations participated. The winners of the competition were two French architects, Michel Andrault and Pierre Parat. Pentru construirea Sanctuarul ui Sf intei Fecioare a Lacrimilor, conform dorinţei episcopului Siciliei, a avut loc un concurs internaţional la care au participat 17 ţări. Câştigătorii concursului au fost arhitecţii francezi Michel Andrault şi Pierre Parat.Slide 14: Madonna delle Lacrime houses a statue of the Madonna that supposedly wept for 5 days in 1953. Alleged chemical tests showed that the liquid was similar to that of human tears. Pilgrims still flock here. Sanctuarul Sf intei Fecioare a Lacrimilor adăposteşte o statuie a Madonei care a plâns 5 zile în anul 1953. Testele de specialitate au arătat că lichidul avea proprietăţi asemănătoare lacrimilor umane. Sanctuarul a devenit un important loc de pelerinaj.Slide 23: Kapok, Ceiba (chorisia) speciosaSlide 30: The upper temple, begun in 1989, was inaugurated November 6 1994 by His Holiness John Paul II. Sanctuarul Sf intei Fecioare a Lacrimilor început în anul 1989 a fost inaugurat la 6 noiembrie 1994 de către Papa Ioan Paul al Doilea.Slide 32: The Shrine is about 103 meters tall (94.3 meters from the upper temple floor) and has -chapels excluded- a diameter of 71.40 meters. Sanctuarul Sf intei Fecioare a Lacrimilor are cca 103 metri înălţime şi un diametru de 71,4 metri (excluzând capelele)Slide 33: The Shrine can hold about 11.000 people standing and about 6.000 sitting. In fact, the plan with its circularity represents all of humanity, that little by little -thanks to the rising columns and the increasing light intensity- reaches up to God.Slide 40: Statua di Padre Pio The immense and solemn hall is paved with precious marble which reproduces a star: Mary the Morning Star who announces the Rising Sun, Jesus.
