On May 20, 1805, Napoleon Bonaparte, about to be crowned King of Italy, ordered the façade to be finished. In his enthusiasm, he assured that all expenses would fall to the French treasurer, who would reimburse the Fabbrica. Even though this reimbursement was never paid, it still meant that finally, within only seven years, the Cathedral had its façade completed

Image internet The “Salt Mountain” monumental piece from Mimmo Paladino is in front Palazzo Reale, near the Duomo, and is part of an exhibition open until 10 July 2011, a monumental installation (with a diameter of 35 meters and a height of 10 meters), recreated twenty years after its first realization in Gibellina and fifteen years after it was set up in Piazza del Plebiscito in Naples.

This monumental work is a pile of 150 quintals of salt in which statues of big black horses, animals that the artist loved very much, have been embedded, creating an unusual and surreal scene with which the public is invited to interact. Image internet
