The term careers has often been restricted to suggest an employment commitment to a single trade skill, profession or business firm for the entire working life of a person. INTRODUCTION Slide 3: WHAT IS CAREER COUNSELING Counseling is the means by which one person helps another through purposeful conversation. Counseling is a method of identifying practical solution to an identified problem. Slide 4: NEED FOR CAREER COUNSELING To survive in this competitive environment in world, it is not important to be the best, but also to keep evolving to say the best. Slide 5: COMPONENTS IN CAREER COUNSELING Career Planning Career Development Career Management Slide 6: Career planning is the process by which one selects career goals & the path to these goals. It means helping the employees to plan their career in terms of their capacities with in the context of organization needs. CAREER PLANNING Career planning is a subset of career management. Career planning applies the concepts of Strategic Planning and Marketing to taking charge of one's professional future. Slide 7: “Career development is a Formal approach used by organization to ensure that people with proper qualifications and experiences are available when needed” CAREER DEVELOPMENT In Organizational Development In Personal Development Slide 8: how individuals manage their careers within and between organizations and how organizations structure the career progress of their members, it can also be tied into succession planning within some organizations. Example: Strong distribution network Intense Staff commitment and loyalty Increasing profit margin Slide 19: WEAKNESS Any existing or potential force which could serve as a barrier to maintaining or achieving a competitive advantage in the market. Example: Lack of a clear company strategy Lack of training opportunities for using a new software Slide 20: OPPORTUNITY Any existing or potential force in the external environment that, if properly leveraged, could provide a competitive advantage. Example: Organization's geographic location New technology Slide 21: THREAT Any existing or potential force in the external environment that could erode a competitive advantage. Example: A new competitor entrant A recession, rising interest rates, or tight credit lines Slide 22: AIM OF SWOT ANALYSIS Take advantage of strengths and opportunities. Minimize weaknesses and eliminate threats Slide 23: WHO NEEDS SWOT ANALYSIS?
