The Library was established in 1979 with objectives in tune with those of Museum. The library house-keeping operations are computerized. The library collection is of over 30,000 volumes, subscribing approximately 150 print periodicals (80 Indian, 70 Foreign), 25 Magazines, 13 News papers. The library uses the latest tools for technical processing of books and journals so as to facilitate the members to locate document easily. Opening Hours of Library : 5/15/2008 3 Opening Hours of Library The library is open from 9.30 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. for reading and reference purpose from Monday to Saturday The library is closed on Sunday and all Gazetted holidays Library Collection/ Resources : 5/15/2008 4 Library Collection/ Resources Books: About 30,000 books on a variety of disciplines like anthropology, archaeology, museology, tribes and castes, art and craft, architecture, culture, paintings, music and dance, linguistics, travels, biographies, history and geography etc. Library Collection/ Resources : 5/15/2008 5 Library Collection/ Resources Periodicals: library subscribing nearly 150 Indian and foreign periodicals on a variety of subjects such as anthropology, archaeology, history, geography, human ecology, rock art, museology, art, culture, paintings, traditional knowledge, environment, music and dance, literature, philosophy, photography, ceramic etc. Newspapers & Magazines : 5/15/2008 6 Newspapers & Magazines Nearly 38 (17 General Magazines and 19 News papers) published from India in Hindi and English are subscribed by the library for providing most recent information to the users. Special Collection : 5/15/2008 7 Special Collection The library has developed a special collection of creative and alternative literature on Indian tribals in their own regional languages i.e. Assamese, Boro, Bengali, Dongri, Lepcha, Mishmis, Garo (Meghalaya), Bodo, Santals, Mizo, Bundelkhandi, etc. Library also has sound collection of Sanskrit literature. Library also has a rare collection of census of India publications from 1931 to 1991. Services Provided by the Library : 5/15/2008 8 Services Provided by the Library The Library offers reference and information service to its users. The reference collection in the library includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, gazetteers, Atlases, maps, periodicals, bibliographies, periodical indexes, computerized databases and other books held especially for consultation. Besides this library compiles and distributes reference material in the form of: Services Provided by the Library : 5/15/2008 9 Services Provided by the Library List of New addition of Journals/Magazines SDI- News paper clippings (Monthly) SDI-Bulletin, Article alert service (Bi-Monthly) SDI- Selective Book reviews (Monthly) Selective Reviews/Abstract of News Papers & Magazines Articles (Monthly) Bibliographical Services Inter-Library Loan CD-ROM search facility Reprographic Services INTERNET Access facility Services Provided by the Library : 5/15/2008 10 Services Provided by the Library Library compiles bibliographies on different subjects on demand and on various occasions i.e. seminars, conferences, workshops, & other programmes organized by IGRMS. Circulation Service : 5/15/2008 11 Circulation Service Library is lending 10 books, 5 journals/ magazines and other documents at a time to its members for a period of one month. Computers and Equipments : 5/15/2008 12 Computers and Equipments The IGRMS Library developed a good infrastructure of Computers for its automation activities i.e. Library automaton, online search, CD Rom search, OPAC, E-mails, INTERNET Accessing etc. There are 8 computers with a Server (for LIBSYS) with a latest configurations is installed in the library. LIBSYS software is using for Library automation activities in the LINUX operating system. Besides this library has a Photocopier, FAX, Telephones etc. for the smooth running of library services Conclusion : 5/15/2008 13 Conclusion A Museum library supplements and compliments the functions of a modern museum as a living centre of education and research. That is why “Great Museum has become the holders of some of the greatest libraries in their fields”.
