How to Learn Piano Visually

PowerPoint Presentation:

Some people have a strong desire to play the piano, but they are intimidated by the idea that it will be extremely difficult to learn. The first step toward playing the piano is locating the notes on the instrument. Looking at 88 keys can make you think that this is an insurmountable task, but you really only have seven notes to learn. These seven notes occur in a very obvious visual pattern that repeats itself across the keyboard. Once you recognize this pattern, you will be on your way to becoming a pianist.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Play some of the black keys on the piano. Notice that the black keys occur in sets of two and three.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Place two of your fingers on a set of two black keys. The white key that is to the left of the first black key in the pair is a C. The white key that is between the two black keys is a D, and the white key that is to the right of the second black key is an E. This is true anywhere on the keyboard, no matter which set of two black keys you choose.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Place three of your fingers on a set of three black keys. The white key that is to the left of the first black key is an F. The white key that is between the first two black keys is a G. The white key that is between the second two black keys is an A, and the white key that is to the right of the third black key is a B. This pattern also applies across the entire keyboard.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Locate an A and play it, along with the next seven white keys. Notice that the white keys occur in lphabetical order, A through G. After G, the pattern starts over again with A.
