Ratified as IEEE Standard 802.15.1-2005 Latest cell phones uses this technology VERSION 1.2 VERSION 2.0+EDR : VERSION 2.0+EDR Announced by SIG in June 2004 Enhanced data rate of up to 3 Mbps Enhances multiple connectivity-able to run many devices at a time Lower power consumption Further improved Bit Error Rate performance Computers and laptops have been some of the 1st devices to use Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR Three times faster transmission speed EDR: Enhanced Data Rate VERSION 2.1+EDR : VERSION 2.1+EDR Adopted by the Bluetooth SIG on July 26, 2007 Improved Pairing Enhanced Power Optimization Provides more information during the inquiry procedure to allow better filtering of devices before connection (EIR) Secure simple pairing (SSP) increases the strength of security VERSION 3.0+HS : Adopted by SIG in April 21,2009 Enhances high speed Data speed upto 24Mbps Enhanced Power Control Compatible with low power battery devices Faster connections Uses 802.11 rodio technology consumes low power Under research VERSION 3.0+HS BLUETOOTH DONGLE : BLUETOOTH DONGLE BLUETOOTH HEADSET : BLUETOOTH HEADSET ADVANTAGES : Low power Integrated into small battery powered devices USB Dongle can be attached to any portable devices to make it bluetooth enabled Operates in radio frequency range 2.4GHz ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES : Data security Low data transfer rate( 1 Mbps) Suitable for transferring only small amount of data If data increases consumes more Power DISADVANTAGES What is WIFI? : WIFI-Wireless fidelity(wireless local area network) based on the IEEE 802.11 standards . The 802.11b Wi-Fi technology operates in the 2.4 or 5 GHz range offering data speeds up to 11 megabits per second. Single to multi point access Covers upto 100 feet computer's wireless adapter translates data into a radio signal and transmits it using an antenna. A wireless router receives the signal and decodes it. The router sends the information to the Internet using a physical, wired Ethernet connection What is WIFI? FLAVOURS OF WIFI : 802.11a transmits at 5 GHz and can move up to 54 megabits of data per second. It uses OFDM(a more efficient coding technique that splits that radio signal into several sub-signals before they reach a receiver).Avoids interference 802.11b is the least expensive standard. Its cost made it popular, 802.11b transmits in the 2.4 GHz frequency band of the radio spectrum. It can handle up to 11 megabits of data per second, and it uses complementary code keying (CCK) modulation to improve speeds . 802.11g transmits at 2.4 GHz like 802.11b, but it's a lot faster -- it can handle up to 54 megabits of data per second. 802.11g is faster because it uses the same OFDM coding as 802.11a. Unlike mobile phones, any standard Wi-Fi device will work anywhere in the world. Economical ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES : WiFi uses the unlicensed 2.4GHz spectrum, which often crowded with other devices such as Bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless phones, or video sender devices, and among many others Power consumption is fairly high compared to some other standards, making the battery life and heat a concern to some users. interference which causes the users devices to no longer function. DISADVANTAGES What is WIMAX ? : WiMAX stands for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access The technology based on IEEE 802.16 standard (broadband wireless access) controls wireless technology wit radio spectrum 10 to 66 GHz Connects wifi hotspots to the internet Covers upto 50 Km Classified into two types: 802.16d (fixed wimax) 802.16e(mobile wimax) What is WIMAX ? Slide 35: IEEE 802.16 Source: WiMAX, making ubiquitous high-speed data services a reality, White Paper, Alcatel. SPECTRUM ALLOCATION : SPECTRUM ALLOCATION Works on both licenced and unlicenced frequencies Access any frequency below 66GHz Wimax forum licensed three frequency: 2.3GHz,2.5GHz and 3.5 GHz Unlicensed frequency :5.4GHz is a approved profile INDIA uses a mix frequencies of 2.5GHz and 3.3GHz WIMAX- ANTENNA : WIMAX- ANTENNA ADVANTAGES : Efficient bandwidth Less interference Operates in both licensed and unlicensed frequencies connections based on scheduling algorithm High speed internet access Would connect the remote areas without cabling ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGE : DISADVANTAGE Delivers less than 40 Mbps over 50 Km(30 miles) Bit transfer gets reduced as distance increases Performance could deteriorate if number of users in a single stage increase Mobile wi -max uses lower gain antennas QUERIES???? : QUERIES????
