Words in a paragraph may be boldfaced or italicized.
Diacritical markings may follow some words to show pronunciations.
Characteristics con’t :

Day 2 “Return of the Wolves”
Prepare to Read
Background :
Background An ecosystem is a community or habitat of living and nonliving things. An ecosystem can be as small as a rotting log or a fish tank, or as large as a forest or an ocean.
In an ecosystem, living things such as plants and animals depend on each other and also on nonliving things such as air, water, and soil.
Background con’t :
Background con’t A change in an ecosystem affects the plants and animals that are part of the system. For example, if there is not enough oxygen in the water of a fish tank, the fish will not be able to breathe and so will die. Without the fish to release carbon dioxide when they breathe, the plants will not be able to make food, and they will die.
The needs of people sometimes conflict with the needs of an ecosystem. When making a decision that affects them both, each one’s needs are taken into account.
