British Language, Attitudes and Beliefs

Celts : 

Celts Paganism- British culture is still influenced by the beliefs and rituals of the pagan Celts. The popular way most contemporary Christian holidays are celebrated owe to the pagan rituals.

Angles, Saxons & Jutes : 

Angles, Saxons & Jutes The English language today is descended from the “Old English” language of these groups “England” is a modern version of “Angle-Land”

Roman Empire : 

Roman Empire When the Romans conquered the British Isles, they brought with them many aspects of their society which are still existent today. We call these aspects “Western Civilization.”

Catholic Church : 

Catholic Church Religion in Britain was far different before the Catholic missionaries. They brought with them not only monotheism (the belief in a single god), but a belief in a positive afterlife that the pagans didn’t have. Christianity became a unifying force in Britain after the Romans abandoned it.

Normans : 

Normans When the French conquered England, society changed yet again. Even after they were expelled their influence remained in the form of French derived words and French mythology and legends.
