Al- Jifri , Samirah Ahmed. "The Attitudes of the Academic School Community towards Applying Distance Learning in the High School Stage." (2012). According to a survey, 70% of principals agreed on the appropriateness of distance learning for the high school stage. One reason given was that distance learning prepares the student to join the university. The teachers at the high schools, with a ratio of (67%) from the total number of this category agreed on the appropriateness of distance learning for the high school stage. One reason given was that it gives the teachers enough time to develop themselves instead of being devoted to traditional works.

Smucny , Darlene, and Merrily Stover. "Enhancing Teaching and Learning for Active-Duty Military Students." Distance learning courses can be very rewarding for military members. These online courses seem to work well in some situations for members, but can also be very challenging for them due to their work, travel, and contracts. It is also important for instructors of military members to be aware of the heavy demands and stress that the members are faced with while taking the distance learning courses.

In creating an online environment for a middle schooler , one must keep in mind what motivates students at this age. Listed below are ideas to consider when creating an online environment for middle school aged students: create a task-oriented learning environment, increase students’ efforts on assignments, overcome students’ fear of failing, relate lessons to students’ lives, make the learning authentic, and give students choices.
