Textile design involves designing structures and looks of different textiles and fabrics. All fabrics might look same to a layman but are quite different in terms of characteristics. For example a fabric might be wholly made up of the same type of fibres while another might be a mix of natural and synthetic fibres. How those fibres are joint together will also differ some might be woven together others may be knitted while others might be fused together. Also textiles come in an extensive range of different colours and patterns which a textile designer has to choose from to determine what will look goodwhile designing a fabric. Prints are created by using dyes or can be screen printed or even created by weaving or knitting together different fibres. A textile designer must be an artistic and creative person that can create structures and designs of distinct types of textiles. These textiles will then be used to make clothing accessories bed sheets window curtains and such varying everyday articles of use. Textile designers usually work in conjunction with fashion and interior designers for the perfect pattern suiting their needs. To design a textile a designer must first know what that fabric will be used for and then choose the right fabric and a suitable pattern. Fabrics for furniture and fabrics for clothing will differ greatly. The designing process starts from a sketch on paper moves on to a computer projection on a software and then results in a draft of the fabric which will be improved upon to create the final product. Like any other designer textile designers have a specialty. Textile design is in actuality a specialized fashion design and requires similar skill sets like sewing weaving a good eye for detail and colours and fair knowledge of drawing and using
