Concept :

Concept “More fuel+More air=Bigger explosion=Greater horsepower”

Supercharging :

Supercharging Method of increasing the inlet air density is called supercharging.

Why supercharging?:

Why supercharging? Increases the power of an engine. Increases the torque required. Necessary in aero-planes as they require oxygen at higher altitudes. Ensures complete combustion of fuel. Reduces pollution to some extent.

WHAT IS SUPERCHARGER?:

WHAT IS SUPERCHARGER? A supercharger is any device that pressurizes the air intake to above atmospheric pressure.

Types of Superchargers:

Types of Superchargers Roots Supercharger Twin-Screw Supercharger Centrifugal Supercharger

Roots Supercharger:

Roots Supercharger Oldest design. Invented in 1860’s. Usually large and sit on top of the engine. Popular in muscle cars and hot rods.

Working :

Working As the meshing lobes spin, air trapped in the pockets between the lobes is carried between the fill side and the discharge side. Large quantities of air move into the intake manifold and "stack up" to create positive pressure.

TWIN-SCREW SUPERCHARGER:

TWIN-SCREW SUPERCHARGER REQUIRE PRECISION MANUFACTURING HIGH COST MORE NOISY

Working:

Working A twin-screw supercharger operates by pulling air through a pair of meshing lobes that resemble a set of worm gears. Twin-screw supercharger compresses the air inside the rotor housing.

Centrifugal Supercharger:

Centrifugal Supercharger Efficient and light weight Attached to the front of the engine instead of the top. Runs at 50,000 to 60,000 RPM.

Working:

Working As the air is drawn in at the hub of the impeller, centrifugal force causes it to radiate outward. The air leaves the impeller at high speed, but low pressure.

Advantages:

Advantages Increased horsepower. Do not suffer lag. Flexible installation. Can be shut down easily.

Disadvantages :

Disadvantages Crank driven. Puts strain on engine. High cost.

Applications:

Applications Aircraft engines Modern Super cars

Conclusion :

Conclusion supercharger is a great way to achieve forced air induction.
