Surviving APUSH :

Surviving APUSH By: Eileen Aquino, Jae Choi, and Sen Lee

Read, Read, Read!!! :

Read, Read, Read!!! Reading should be the priority. Actually understand what you read, do not just skim through. Look up unfamiliar words in order to get a better comprehension. If you need more understanding, use outlines and other study materials WITH the reading (still, reading should be priority).

Read, Read, Read MORE!!! :

Read, Read, Read MORE!!! You might wonder why there’s another slide for this topic, but it’s because reading is extremely important. Do not procrastinate on reading since it would take at least one hour for each chapter. It is encouraged to divide the sections to be read since the assignment is anticipated. It is encouraged to plan ahead of what sections you are going to read

Pay Attention in Class :

Pay Attention in Class Paying attention will give you the opportunity to analyze what you read. The PowerPoints are a crucial foundation to recap what you learned. Do not hesitate to ask questions because it will get you a better understanding of history.

Note Important Facts :

Note Important Facts They may appear on the AP test. Trust Mr. Cruthers when he says to note an important fact. Not all notes need to be written down. Take notes on what you don’t know and don’t take notes on what you already do know. Paraphrase, do not write word-for-word.

Use Study Aids :

Use Study Aids Review worksheets and outlines, especially before the quiz. Reading should still be first. For the AP test, use study materials such as the Princeton Review, Barrons, Kaplans, etc. Also refer to the ‘Cram Sheet’ for the AP test. Try to use everything that Mr. Cruthers provides for you.

Analysis, Analysis, Analysis! :

Analysis, Analysis, Analysis! For FRQs and DBQs make sure you ANALYZE, not summarize. Make sure you are answering the prompt. It is crucial to be specific about your facts; do not be broad. Think about the significance of the event and not just what happened. Show what you have learned; think critically.

Manage Your Time Wisely :

Manage Your Time Wisely Do not wait until the last minute to cram everything (cramming won’t work with over 200 years of history!) Reading at the last minute will get you stressed and therefore you will not be able to comprehend what you read. Practice writing the essays within a certain time slot.

Take It Seriously! :

Take It Seriously! You’re an AP student (be responsible for the classes you take). If you are absent, make certain that you complete assignments for that missing day. Don’t be discouraged by the large amount of work (ex. reading) given.

Be Positive! :

Be Positive! You deserve to be in this class. You should be proud of yourself. By the time you finish the course, you will be grateful of how much you’ve learned versus learning not as much in a regular class.

More Advice :

More Advice Use your time wisely and get as much information as you can from reading. Take necessary breaks (hiatus) to allow yourself to stay concentrated. Be smart about your studying and reading; do not overexert yourself by procrastinating in other classes. By doing your part of reading, you can help Mr. Cruthers by allowing him to easily convey the material.
