Not only do they make up 40 percent of your grade, it is also the number 1 indicator for how well you’ll do on the APUSH Exam. The quizzes test how much information you’ve gain from the chapter. A high score reflects how much you have mastered the chapter. Here are some ways to prepare for the quiz: Read the Book!!!!!! The book has all the information you need. There is no need for substitutes. But remember don’t read the book just to get the chapter out of the way. Take care in reading so that you’ll be prepared for the quiz. Use the worksheet as a “self quiz”. The questions you missed, you should go back through the text and search for the answer. Take careful notes on this information if needed. Quizzes : Quizzes Grades are mostly based on quiz grades. Make sure to read each chapter thoroughly as possible. There is a quiz for every chapter; do the math, there are 42 quizzes. Memorize the main key points/people in each chapter; it’ll help for the AP testing also. Put in effort to study history! Do not skip a chapter! It’ll be regretful! Do the worksheet- it helps you to focus on the reading much more. Take time to read the chapter; start a day sooner. If there is time, read the chapter again. No pain no gain. Every AP student goes through this “path to success.” Think of the quiz as a pre-AP sample test questions. Put in the best effort. Taking the Quiz : Taking the Quiz -When the quizzes are being passed out relax and calm down. Get into the right mindset (quiz mode). -Once you have the quiz make sure you read each question careful to avoid getting tricked. Answer the ones you know first then come back to the ones you are stuck on. -When dealing with a difficult question act as the quiz maker. Ask yourself, What are they looking for? What traps did they possibly set-up for us students? Obviously if you act as the test maker you’ll have a better chance in identifying the correct answer. This cognition is quite effective. - Relax if you don’t know the answer at first. It may take more than a few seconds for your brain to retrieve the information the question is demanding. - After answering all the questions, stop and take some time to go back to review your answers. During this time go through the chapter in your mind and see if you forgot any details. -After you are done with the quiz you can now relax. You’ve done everything you can.. Reflect on each quiz as a learning experience. It is only making you stronger for the rigorous exam in May. Quizzes : Keep in mind that the quiz will most like contain these types of questions: chronological questions Matching (locations, people, items, etc) Identification Comprehension questions (big pictures and small pictures) Don’t cram staying up till 2 in the morning reading the chapter. This is only going to set you up for failure. Budget your time carefully. The morning of the quiz day re-read any parts of the chapter you are weakest on, if necessary. Besides glancing at the worksheet do not do anymore studying on the way to school or during school. Let your mind relax. Your brain needs time to absorb and digest the information. It requires some time for your mind to process the information. Cramming information into your brain will not help you. Quizzes Slide 10: But if there are more questions that need to be answered, just grab a former AP US History student. We will be happy to share our experiences and suggestions for the incoming AP students! You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
