Day 1:Mt Maunganui Surf Safety day!

First we had a talk with the life-guards about the rules: stay between the flags, listen to the life-guards, don’t swim alone, have a parent watching you, know your limits, if in doubt, stay out, and always stay calm. Then we had a video and Shelby and Bailey did a surf saving show. That was the ‘theory’ part and we learnt what to do in a rip and how to spot them. :

Finally we got into the water. Yay!!! We learnt how to act when you- put up your hand and wait for the lifeguards( lie on your back)- if someone else needs help in the water, tell an adult. There was three activities: relays, dives and running, and free time. :

The 1 & ¾ hour trip up was horrible ?. The view was nice, though. The way down took 1/3 of the time it took to go up. We learnt to take water, walk with other people, its better to wear good shoes, don’t stray off the track. :
